Yakuza 0 is a prequel to the Yakuza (now Like a Dragon) series, set in Japan in 1988 during the economic bubble. The game follows two protagonists:
Kazuma Kiryu, a young yakuza framed for a murder in Kamurocho, Tokyo, who gets caught in a power struggle over a seemingly worthless empty lot.
Goro Majima, a disgraced former yakuza forced to manage a cabaret club in Sotenbori, Osaka, who gets drawn back into the criminal underworld.
The story blends intense crime drama with over-the-top action, featuring brawler combat, side activities (real estate, cabaret management, minigames), and a mix of serious and absurd humor. Themes of loyalty, honor, and ambition drive the narrative, setting up Kiryu and Majima’s future roles in the series
