The highly anticipated Mario Kart World is set to launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025! After its reveal during the latest Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo has now released the first gameplay footage and details, showcasing the most ambitious Mario Kart yet.

In Mario Kart World, you’re no longer confined to racetracks—take your kart anywhere and experience the most open-ended Mario Kart ever! Seamlessly transition between connected roads and courses, offering an exciting new way to race.
New Gameplay Features & Modes
Grand Prix – Compete for the highest score across four interconnected courses, battling against 23 other racers. The areas between courses are part of the race, so be prepared for dynamic, continuous action!
Knockout Tour – Race through a series of back-to-back courses with no pit stops. If you don’t place high enough by the time you reach each of the five checkpoints… you’re OUT!
Free Roam Mode – Go off the track and explore freely! Drive in any direction, discover hidden areas, and snap in-game photos at scenic spots with friends.
- Local Co-op – Up to 4 players can race together on the same system,
- Dynamic Weather System – For the first time in the series, weather conditions will change mid-race, affecting visibility, track grip, and even vehicle performance. Rain can make roads slippery, snow can slow down traction, and strong winds may alter aerial movement.
Vehicle Transformations – Depending on the terrain, your vehicle will automatically transform:
Land – Classic karts and bikes for traditional racing.
Water – Transform into a submarine to race underwater.
Air – Take to the skies as your kart turns into a plane, making aerial shortcuts possible.
Character & Kart Customization – For the first time in Mario Kart, you can customize your character’s outfits! Additionally, vehicle customization is deeper than ever—change body styles, wheels, decals, and more to suit your playstyle.
A Mario Kart World Nintendo Switch 2 bundle will also be available at launch, priced at $499.
