Eidos-Montréal Lays Off 75 Employees Amid Ongoing Embracer Restructuring
Studio Cuts Staff After Project Completion, Continues Work on Fable Reboot
Embracer-owned Eidos-Montréal (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Deus Ex) has announced layoffs affecting up to 75 employees, marking the second round of job cuts at the studio in under a year.
In a public statement, the studio confirmed the layoffs are due to a project mandate ending, leaving it unable to reassign all affected staff.
“This is not a reflection of their talent or dedication,” the studio said, adding that it will provide support for those impacted.

A Studio in Transition
-
Previously owned by Square Enix, Eidos-Montréal was acquired by Embracer Group in 2022.
-
A planned new Deus Ex game was canceled in 2024 amid Embracer’s massive restructuring, which has eliminated over 4,500 jobs company-wide.
-
The studio’s last major release was 2021’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
-
Currently, Eidos-Montréal is supporting Playground Games on Microsoft’s highly anticipated (but recently delayed) Fable reboot.
-
The studio hints at other unannounced projects in development.
Gaming Industry Layoffs Continue in 2025
The cuts at Eidos-Montréal are part of a broader wave of layoffs hitting the gaming industry:
-
1,200+ jobs lost in 2025 (Unity, PlayStation, Ubisoft, WB Games, and more).
-
Over 25,000 layoffs since 2023, per industry tracking.
-
A 2024 GDC survey found 1 in 10 game developers were laid off last year.
