Hideo Kojima took the stage at SXSW 2025 to unveil an epic new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, confirming its release date. The game launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025, but those who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition or Collector’s Edition will get early access starting June 24.

The biggest highlight of the trailer is undoubtedly Neil, played by Italian actor Luca Marinelli. Seen putting on a bandanna just like Solid Snake, Neil’s resemblance to the legendary Metal Gear protagonist is uncanny. Kojima had hinted at this back in 2020, praising Marinelli’s acting skills on Instagram and suggesting that “if he wore a bandanna, he’d be a spitting image of Solid Snake.” Now, that prediction has become reality.

The trailer also introduces the Magellan Man, a massive, tar-like creature fused with the DHV Magellan that bears a striking resemblance to Metal Gear Rex. Operated like a Pacific Rim-style mech, Magellan Man faces off against terrifying, colossal tar monsters. A 15-inch statue of the Magellan Man is included in the Collector’s Edition, which is priced at $229.99 and will be available for pre-order exclusively on PlayStation Direct starting March 17.

Continuing the story that captivated over 19 million players since its debut on November 8, 2019, Death Stranding 2poses a haunting question: “Should we have connected?” Sam, along with his companions, embarks on a perilous journey to save humanity from extinction. Kojima once again promises to reshape the gaming landscape with his unparalleled vision.
