Nintendo Clarifies Physical Editions for Switch 2 Edition

No Download Codes. Full Content on the Game Card

Nintendo has cleared up confusion about the physical editions of Switch 2 games, addressing misconceptions that these editions would come with download codes. The announcement follows a series of ups and downs for the company, including the excitement of unveiling the Switch 2 console, as well as backlash over pricing and delayed pre-orders in certain regions.

As expected, Nintendo confirmed that several of its Switch games will receive special versions for the upcoming console. These Switch 2 Edition games will not only feature performance improvements—such as those seen in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond—but some will also include new content. Players will be able to purchase the Switch 2 Edition of games or opt for an upgrade if they already own the base game. However, there has been considerable confusion about what the physical editions will actually contain.

Since the announcement, there has been significant discussion in the community about whether physical editions of Nintendo Switch 2 games would include a download code for the additional content. In a statement to Vooks, a Nintendo representative clarified that these physical editions will contain the full game and upgrade pack on the same game card. There will be no download code for Nintendo or Nintendo-published games—they will be entirely contained on the cartridge.
