Nintendo has officially unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5, 2025. This next-generation hybrid console builds upon the success of the original Switch, introducing significant upgrades in performance, display, connectivity, and controller design. With a new lineup of exclusive titles, enhanced backward compatibility, and free game updates for existing titles, the Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be Nintendo’s most ambitious console yet.
Pricing and Editions
Nintendo Switch 2 will be available in two models at launch:
Standard Edition – $449.99
Mario Kart Bundle– $499.99 (includes a Mario Kart World Digital Game)
Both models include 256GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD express cards.
A Bigger and Better Display
The Nintendo Switch 2 features a 7.9-inch HDR LCD screen, delivering 1080p resolution in handheld mode with HDR support and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for smoother gameplay. This is a notable step up from the original 720p display.
When docked, the console can output at up to 4K resolution at 60 FPS, offering a significant graphical boost for games that support it. Load times are also drastically reduced thanks to a new, faster processor.
Joy-Con 2
Nintendo has completely redesigned the Joy-Con controllers for the Switch 2. These attach magnetically instead of using a rail system, making them more durable and easier to swap. New features include:
Mouse Sensor: Allows Joy-Con 2 to function like a computer mouse on flat surfaces in supported games.
C Button: A new dedicated button for quick voice chat and screen sharing.
New Dock and Connectivity Enhancements
The Nintendo Switch 2 dock introduces new features, including:
4K Output Support – Upscaled visuals for compatible games.
USB-C Charging Port on the Console – Allows for charging in tabletop mode.
Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6 Support – Faster connectivity for online play and wireless accessories.

Free Game Updates for Nintendo Switch 2
Many existing Switch games are getting free updates to take advantage of the Switch 2’s improved hardware for Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.
GameChatConnect, Share, and Play with Friends
A brand-new feature, GameChat, lets up to 12 people chat while playing games together. Key features include:
Real-Time Screen Sharing: Show your gameplay to friends even if they’re playing a different game.
USB-C Camera Support: Connect a Nintendo Switch 2 Camera to enable video chat. Up to four people can appear on-screen simultaneously.
C Button for Quick Access: Press the C Button on the right Joy-Con 2 to instantly activate GameChat.
Smart Microphone Features: The built-in mic automatically filters unwanted sounds and adjusts volume for clear communication.
GameShare
If a game supports GameShare via GameChat, you can share gameplay with friends who don’t own the game. Up to four people can join a shared session.
